Children’s Books Make a Comeback

This semester, we have spent a great deal of time exploring how we can use YA lit to teach English-language arts curriculum in the secondary English classroom. Why stop there? Check out this list of 10 children’s picture books that totally still have relevance and potential in secondary English–especially in the city where we have a great deal of English-language learners. These books are particularly effective tools for close reading: examining a small amount of text closely and thoroughly. Knowing the range of reading abilities students have as they enter English class at any grade, I am all for incorporating great books of all reading levels into my teaching.
