American Born Chinese

Reading “Calvin and Hobbes” came later in life. Before then, I grew up devouring comics of every ilk, so   this graphic novel was not a novelty so much as a return to things familiar.  Thes novel is amazing with its three intriguing plotlines merging.  What is the connection between the monkey king, the middle school student, Jin Wang, and Danny, an All-American teen? Well, this book as simple as it appears, offers a beautifully executed commentary about race, identity, and self-acceptance. What more could one ask for?
