We often read top ten lists, or lists of best sellers, but do we ever think about their impact on our students. For many of us who teach in New York, our students will be from diverse populations. Here YA author, Malinda Lo, breaks down the 2013 NY Times list of YA Best Sellers to show how diverse, or not, the books are. As someone who strongly believes in the importance of representation in literature, I believe this breakdown is rather sobering. Thoughts?
